Since 2011, Stephen Edward Bands has been writing The Conquest of Gaul as a scratch-pad for many ideas—some good, some not that great. But now, it’s about the music, man!

When I started The Conquest of Gaul as a disenchanted, out-of-work college graduate, it was more of a sounding board for anything I thought was “deep.” And, oh boy, is some of that stuff pretty cringe-worthy. Over time, however, I found myself gravitating towards music criticism, because I love music, and I love talking about music. As the years have gone by, my articles have increased in quality (hopefully), even though their publication rate has severely dwindled. It is with this visual rebranding, that I hope to remedy that. More content, more focused, better product.

The contents of the reviews and critiques within this site are always (or, almost always) positive, and come as humble recommendations for your listening pleasure. I try to refrain from negative reviews, because I don’t like being mean, and I don’t like listening to bad music (who does?). So I hope the articles that follow will be entertaining and/or informative in your constant search for enjoyable, challenging, novel music experiences. Enjoy, and happy listening!
